Project: House extension & refurbishment
Location: Cambridge
DMA Architects were commissioned to bring this dated 1960s house to modern day standards and give it a much needed face lift.
The original property was a detached 3-bed house with unattractive facing brickwork. The old plan arrangement did not provide suffficient and flexible living spaces for our clients. The transformation comprised the demolition of the existing garages flanking the property on both sides and replacement with a new 2-storey extension to one side and a single storey extension to the south side. The project also involved extensive internal remodelling of the existing dwelling.
A slate roofed loggia on oak posts has been added along the front of the property from where the family can enjoy stunning sunsets. A juliet balcony to the new master suite captures the rising sun and provides magnificent views over woodland to the rear of the house. The remodelled living spaces extend onto a new garden terrace with large areas of glazing for seamless indoor / outdoor living.
The old parquet flooring was sanded down and given a lacquer finish providing a great contrast to the modern finishes. The old property also benefited from improved external wall insulation, new double glazed windows throughout and new roof insulation.
DMA Architects worked closely with Heidi Bibby Interiors on this highly successful project.
