Project: Terrington House
Location: Hills Road, Cambridge
Comprising: Office refurbishment
Contractor: Bluestone
Completion: 2003
This project began as a limited design competition for the refurbishment of an existing office building in Cambridge and was organised by Bidwells on behalf of Gonville and Caius College. Nigel’s design for a complete remake of the façade and remodelling of the central core won the competition.
Works included a new rainscreen cladding system in terracotta tiles and flat metal panels with banks of aerofoil louvres and a new entrance bridge leading to the main foyer. The careful specification of new materials has produced a stylish result which continues to look good after many years of use and weathering. The completed building became a runner up in its category in the BCO Design Awards 2006.
